About Bruce R. Poinsette: Bruce R. Poinsette was a beloved RtR volunteer and Lake Oswego community member. He lived a life of service heavily inspired by growing up in Jim Crow South Carolina and being part of a family with deep roots in the Civil Rights Movement. Throughout his life, he was always willing to lend a hand and educate those around him, as well as push for Black representation in particular and representation for marginalized groups in general in spaces they have historically been excluded from throughout Oregon. In May, Bruce passed away due to complications from a low risk heart procedure, unfortunately making him a statistic of the disproportionate negative impacts of the healthcare system on Black communities. With the Bruce R. Poinsette Awards, we honor his legacy by uplifting those who have shown a real commitment to service in creating a more equitable and inclusive Lake Oswego for everyone.
