Commemorate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a special celebration at the Lake Oswego High School auditorium featuring D.J. Avelanche(link is external) as M.C., a keynote address from Portland State University Professor with specializations in race, social movement and gender Dr. Shirley Jackson(link is external), a greeting by Mayor Joe Buck, musical performances by premier male vocalist Alonzo Chadwick, Sr.(link is external), and artwork created by community members.  Those unable to attend the event in-person can view the livestream/recording at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGwDnDw_xX8(link is external).  The event concludes with a car rally through Lake Oswego led by the Police Department.  Those who wish to participate in the car rally are invited to come with their vehicles decorated with quotes by Dr. King or messages promoting a non-profit organization of their choice that advances the legacy of Dr. King.  The car rally will take a right onto Country Club Rd. from the LOHS parking lot, then a left onto Boones Ferry Rd., and will conclude on Boones Ferry Rd & SW 65th Ave.

The City (Library, Parks & Recreation, and Police) is collaborating with African American Women of Lake Oswego & Surrounding Areas, Bahá’ís of Lake Oswego, LO for LOve, Mary’s Woods, Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Social Justice Initiative Task Force, and Respond to Racism to plan and host the event.  This event is sponsored by the City of Lake Oswego, The Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library, the Lake Oswego School District, and Respond to Racism.  For additional information, please contact Adult Services Manager Allison Arnold at 503-534-5665 or aarnold@lakeoswego.city(link sends e-mail).
