Respond to Racism is thrilled to announce the recipients of our 2023 Gloria Brown Memorial Scholarships. Niyah Coleman and Nandita Kumar were selected as the recipients and each are being awarded $2,000. Both embody the spirit of Gloria Brown. Please join us in congratulating them!!
Gloria Brown was a woman who lived her life without boundaries, becoming the first African American woman forest supervisor at the US Forest Service and solidifying herself as a pioneer in her field. She was a champion for social and racial justice.
One of her core beliefs and values was providing opportunities to those who are underrepresented because she knew far too often, talented individuals get overlooked. It is our hope through The Gloria Brown Scholarship that Respond to Racism can help the next generation of underrepresented students get an opportunity to succeed and thrive through education.
