DESCRIPTION:Please join our community meeting on Monday\, June 5th from 6:3
 0-8:00pm. We will hear from two former law enforcement officers\, Bob Hend
 erson (City of Santa Clara) and Don Plunkett (NYC/South Bronx)\, in a mode
 rated discussion with Denmark Whitaker. We will learn more about the histo
 ry of law enforcement\, modern-day policing\, gun violence\, and the impac
 t on our community. Please join us in person at the Lake Oswego UCC or on 
 Zoom!\n\nBob Henderson is a native of San Jose\, California\, and holds a
  degree in Psychology. He retired from law enforcement after 26 years of s
 ervice\, and is a member of the National Association of African American P
 olice Officers. Bob gives regular presentations about the history of law e
 nforcement\, and has dedicated his life to studying African American histo
 ry\, which is an American story. He assists diverse groups in understandin
 g from a historical perspective why we continue to have two different crim
 inal justice systems: one for Blacks and one for Whites\, and law enforcem
 ent’s role in breaking this cycle by building trust within the respectiv
 e communities they serve.\n\nDon Plunkett is a business owner in the New Y
 ork City building construction industry\, and an adjunct professor of busi
 ness at the City University of New York.  In the 1980s\, he was a police 
 officer in the Bronx\, New York\, and retired early after being injured. 
  He volunteers on a confidential task force that responds to NYPD shooting
 s and other trauma.  After witnessing senseless gun violence in this capa
 city\, Don decided to no longer carry firearms\, and is an advocate for gu
 n safety.  Don lives with his wife in New York\, with two grown children 
 and a grandchild nearby.\n\nDenmark Whitaker DJ Avelanche (he/him) knew f
 rom a young age that music was what he wanted to do in life because of the
  way it made him feel.  He has spent 3 decades in the entertainment indus
 try working for some of Portland's top radio stations\, hosting national m
 ix shows\, and as a performer alongside many major artists.  As a DJ and 
 musician\, Avelanche truly loves all styles of music.  When it comes to t
 eaching\, he wants people to feel something special and enjoy music as he 
 does whenever he performs.\n\nThe Zoom link will be emailed to registrants
  on Sunday June 4th. Those gathering at the LOUCC can arrive beginning at 
 6:00pm. Snacks and refreshments will be available.
